“Ouch,” Lily said under her breath as a paper plane hit her on her shoulder, bounced off, and landed on her desk, missing her cauldron. It didn’t hurt, obviously, but she was accustomed to saying that word when hit by something out of nowhere. She turned around while the professor wasn’t looking and saw a boy in her year, but in Hufflepuff grinning. ‘What did he want now?’ Lily asked herself, scowling a bit. She smirked slightly at his note at the first glance because the first word she read was ‘ball’.
Lily actually considered it for a moment, but then thought why should she? He was usually so full of himself and was pretty vile. Deciding that she could find someone much better to go with, Lily held the parchment, turned around, and quickly dropped it into his potions, hoping the bloke would get the message. Taking a quick glance at the clock, Lily noticed that class would be up in a few minutes. She performed the last couple of steps to her potion, right before the professor came around to her desk to check. “Hmm. You’ve done better,” he told her with a slight sigh of disappointment.
She bit her lip gently, understanding. Potions was one of her strengths, but it was her fault in a way for getting distracted.
While taking out her notebook to write the homework assignment down, Lily wondered whom she should like to go to the ball with. Ximun popped into her mind immediately. She had a fancy towards the boy for a couple of weeks now. However, she shouldn’t have her hopes high. Firstly, he was two years older than she was. Why would he be interested in her? Plus he was in Slytherin. There was something about those students, she admired, but her oldest brother would most likely be outraged and her house and theirs’ were practically sworn enemies.
After writing the homework down, Lily cleaned up her desk area. She put away the spare ingredients back into the cabinet along with her cauldron. She swung her satchel over her shoulder, opened the door to leave, when before she could escape, Jake came in her way and put a hand on her shoulder. “So, what’s your answer?” he asked. As much as Lily would love to laugh in his face for not getting it, she pulled out her wand and sent a Bat Bogey hex at him, with a shout of, “Don’t you dare touch me!”. She didn’t care if the professor would come out and give her a detention. She just smiled with content and turned away.
Lily,
I was wondering if you’d like to go to the ball with me?
