Autumn looked down at her sleeping children, admiring how oblivious they were to the world. She envied them. They were so peaceful, and they didn't have to worry about anything. No cheating husbands, no stupid whores that cheated with the husband, no children that were just learning how to stand and walk (sweet Merlin that was a scary thought), and still put on a happy face for everyone. Yes, everyone had said that they would love to help with the twins, and that she didn't always have to put on a happy face. She just couldn't let them. No one but Darien and Luca understood why she couldn't let them help. But only she knew the exact reason why.
"Autumn Rose! Get your ass out here right now!"
The girl signed as she got up from her bed and opened her door. It was a surprise, though, to see her dad at the door with that same furious glare she'd come accustom to in her 13 years of life. Every witty remark she had was gone, like they always did when he was like this. "Y-yes?" she asked uncertainly, backing away.
A low growl came from her father as he pushed her back into her room. The force of the push made her fall to the ground and hit her head on her desk. Searing pain radiated through her body, but she knew she couldn't show it. All she did was stare up at her father as he slammed the door shut and paced around her room.
"I can not believe you did that!" he bellowed, sporadically glaring down at her.
Autumn thought back quickly through the past few days, sifting through everything that had happened. Her memory betrayed her though, and she dreaded asking the question. "Wh-what did I do, father?" she asked, almost a whisper.
If she thought she'd seen her dad mad, this just intensified. A lot. "You know EXACTLY what you did!"
She thought again, trying to find what triggered all of this. When she sat up just the slightest, she knew she made the wrong move.
A hand came across her face suddenly, a harsh strike. Autumn cried out in pain, putting her hand on her cheek, and closed her eyes. "Don't you fucking move!" he shouted again, his pacing going faster.
"What did I do?!" Autumn cried, not moving more than her lips.
'This is going on and no one is stopping him?' she thought frantically, her eyes daring to the door as if one of her brothers were going to burst in and stop their father. Autumn only just remembered that they were at the Richardson's house playing quidditch with the two boys there. And their mom left for Diagon Alley for some more school supplies. No one was going to stop him.
"Your fucking brothers were cleaning up the kitchen today. Did you FORGET that was /your/ job?!" he asked, visibly shaking now.
That?! that is what he was yelling and abusing her for? Autumn couldn't believe it. Her mind flickered back through that day and all the chores she had done. She had cleaned the green house floor, both bathrooms, the fireplace of extra floo, her room, and the front porch. Her brothers didn't have any chores that day, and they had offered to help with the kitchen so autumn could get some rest. She was getting yelled at for being offered help, and taking it.
"I know it was my job. Luc and Dar said they'd clean it for me because I-"
Her father cut her off with another smack and gripping the top of her arms to pick her up. "I don't give a gnomes ass what you had to do. You didn't do your job, you took away your brothers time and you sat around here like the lazy prick you are." he told her, throwing her on her bed and punching her door, leaving a crack.
Autumn couldn't believe this. She knew she shouldn't say anything though, for silence may not be golden, but it certainly made sure she didn't get hit more.
"Autumn, do you understand what you did wrong?" her father asked, attempting to calm himself down.
She had to say no, seeing as she really didn't understand.
Even though physically he appeared calm, another round of anger took over and his eyes betrayed him. "You were weak. You were lazy. You were useless. Do you honestly think a guy will want someone like that? Do you think you'll have friends when you're like that? No. You wont. You'll be lonely, and miserable. And you know what? Maybe that's just what you want."
"When you show you're weak, like you did when you were too lazy to do your fucking job, no man will take interest in you. And I will not-" he emphasized by throwing her lamp across the room. "have some common slut as a daughter."
Autumn flinched back toward her wall as she watched her room get destroyed. She knew it would be over soon, but she wanted it done now.
After five more minutes of her fathers temper tantrum, and her room a complete and utter mess, she stopped and turned toward Autumn. "Never, EVER, take the help from anyone again. You'll look weak, stupid, and useless." Then he stormed out of the room, leaving her shaking on her bed, a bruise forming on her arms and face, tears running from her eyes.
She stood up slowly and grabbed her wand, steadying her hand and muttering 'reparo' toward the broken objects. Two rowdy voices floated up the stairs. Luca and Darien were home. Autumn didn't know why, but more tears fell down her face. Maybe it was the fact that they wouldn't get hurt by her father like she did. Probably.
"There are my boys. How was quidditch?" she heard, automatically knowing her dads mood was completely gone. That should've made her pretty happy, but it only made her hurt more, knowing she was only worth a fight with her dad.
Luca and Darien continued gabbing with their dad, complimenting each other on maneuvers made, and great saves. Autumn wasn't listening. She had just fallen to the ground and cried. Everything couldn't stay built up, so she just hoped that no one would go into her room.
Obviously that wasn't the case, as her brothers bound upstairs and into her room, concern overflowing their faces. Luca was the first one to move, throwing himself on the ground next to Autumn and putting his arms around her, asking what dad did. Darien moved to her bed, looking around the room and trying to see what he could help clean.
Autumn told them what happened, explaining how it wasn't their fault, but hers. She /should/ have cleaned the kitchen because it was her job today. She deserved to be punished.
Within an instant, the brothers were denying that statement, saying it was their fault and she shouldn't be so hard on herself.
Keeping the majority of her fathers comments to herself, her brothers really didn't understand why she would never accept help again, without a fight.
Autumn sighed as her thoughts came back to the present, and there was a knock on her door.
"Uhm...Autumn? Excuse me if I'm interrupting. Immy and I are here-" Remus said, opening the door slightly, revealing a slight blush at the thought of him and Immy together. "And she is really wanting to see the babies. But if you're too busy-"
"Remus, I am never too busy to see my best friends." she said, picking up Jullian and cuddling her to her chest. "Would you mind grabbing your little twin?"
Remus blushed again, walking into her bedroom tentatively and over to the bed. "Of course I can." he said quietly, picking up R.C. and holding him somewhat awkwardly.
The mother couldn't help but laugh at the situation. She was so glad she had named her son after Remus, for more than one reason.
The two made their way out of the room, greeted quietly, yet enthusiastically by Immy. She gasped quietly and whispered "There are my two favorite babies!!"
Autumn shook her head. "They are the only two babies you /know/, Immy." she laughed, handing Jullian to the other girl.
"Technicalities, Autumn." she muttered as she snuggled with the baby.
Everything would be right, just so long as Autumn hid it. And she hid her feelings well.
