The two detectives walked to the space in-between platforms nine and ten. Looking briefly at each other, they both nodded and penetrated the magical barrier, their eyes seeing the scene of the horrible suicide for the first time. "Holy Sh-" Detective Barret said, loudly enough so his voice reverberated through the tunnel of the train. "Damn...." Barret whispered, horrified at the array of body parts strewn on the tracks.
"Come on Barret. This isn't the worst we've seen..." said Barret's partner, Detective Stevens. He walked up to the edge of the platform, slipped on latex gloves, and took samples of the blood. "Do we know who this kid was? Or why he decided to commit suicide?" He asked his partner, who was now on the tracks, looking at what seemed to be a severed head.
"All we have is a name." He said, shining his flashlight on the head. "Ximun Gates." He said, sighing. "I would place the T.O.D. at about three hours ago." Checking his watch, he nodded. "That would place the suicide at about midnight. An odd time to commit suicide, don't you think?" He said, raising an eyebrow. Why commit suicide in the same place you started school? Barret thought.
Stevens sighed, and jumped onto the tracks and stood beside Barret, shaking his head as he stood in the blood puddle that used to be a human. "This is just..." He paused, searching for the correct word. "This is just horrible. Think of the man's family, if he had any. His kids probably just got to school, his wife at home waiting for him in bed." Stevens couldn't help but let a few tears escape from his eyes.
Barret nudged his partner, and couldn't help but laugh. "C'mon man, pull it together. We don't want to have to go to the Minister and tell him that I had you crying on the case, do we?" He said, patting Stevens' back and crouching down to examine the blood. "There's no way in hell that a man with a loving family, a good career, and a great life would want to just end it like this. I'm starting to think that he was pushed." He said sighing and standing, his shoes covered in the crimson red liquid that gave most creatures life.
"Well, I really don't see the point in investigating any further. I just got an owl from the Ministry, the guy had barely any enemies in his years. He must have just been finished with life. Can't put someone behind bars in Azkaban for a suicide." Stevens said, lifting himself back onto the platform. "Just make sure you call someone to clean all of this shit up. It's not our jobs." He said, giving a hand to Barret, lifting him to the platform as well. The two walked back through the barrier, leaving the blood and guts of Ximun Gates to be cleaned by someone else.
